Candidate 2027

A teacher who
truly gets it.

I'm Callie Ritter — a Neuhaus-trained academic language therapist candidate and library manager at St. Ambrose School in Houston. I work exclusively with children who struggle with reading, not because they aren't trying, but because their brains are wired differently.

Dyslexia is not a reflection of intelligence. Some of the most creative, curious minds I've met have it. What these children need is a specialist who understands the research, knows the structured literacy approach, and shows up consistently — session after session — until reading becomes something they can do.

That's what I do. In-person, at your child's school, on their turf.

Signs your child
may need support

These are common signs of dyslexia or language-based learning differences. They don't mean your child isn't smart — they mean your child needs a different approach.

Struggles to sound out words they've never seen before
Reads slowly or hesitantly, even familiar words
Frequently confuses letters (b/d, p/q) or skips words
Has been identified with dyslexia by a school or specialist
Avoids reading aloud or becomes anxious about it
Spelling is inconsistent, even for words practiced repeatedly
Smart, verbal, curious — but reading lags far behind peers
Has had a 504 or IEP that hasn't produced meaningful progress

Frequently
asked questions

What is structured literacy?
Structured literacy is an evidence-based approach to reading instruction that teaches phonics, phonemic awareness, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension in a systematic, explicit, and cumulative way. It is the most effective method for students with dyslexia and is endorsed by the International Dyslexia Association.
What is a CALT candidate?
A CALT (Certified Academic Language Therapist) candidate is a therapist actively completing the Neuhaus Education Center's rigorous training program. I am currently in Book 2 of training and on track for full CALT certification in 2027. During the candidate phase my rates reflect the training stage.
Do you accept insurance?
Ritter's Readers is currently private pay only. Many families use FSA/HSA funds for literacy therapy. I can provide invoices for any reimbursement your plan may offer. I plan to evaluate insurance panels following CALT certification.
How many sessions per week does my child need?
Most children benefit from 2–3 sessions per week for optimal progress. We will discuss your child's needs and schedule during the free consultation and design a plan that works for your family.
Do sessions happen at school or at home?
Sessions are conducted in-person at your child's school — no extra drop-off needed. I bring all materials. Virtual sessions are available when needed. I serve schools throughout the Houston Inner Loop, Heights, and Memorial areas within approximately 20 minutes of my base locations.
What is your cancellation policy?
24-hour advance notice is required for cancellations. Missed sessions without 24-hour notice are charged at 50% of the session rate. Life happens — I try to be flexible when circumstances are genuinely unexpected.

Real results. Real families.

Within three months our son went from dreading reading to actually picking up books on his own. Callie has a gift for making kids feel capable rather than behind.
